Jaipur: City police Sunday arrested a chain-snatching gang leader and detained a juvenile accomplice after a 400-km chase that spanned multiple states. DCP (South) Digant Anand said the Shipra Path police arrested the main accused, identified as Ram Mohan alias Munna Bagariya (22) from Rewari in Haryana, following a detailed probe involving over 100 CCTV footage analyses and extensive ground intelligence.According to SHO (Shipra Path) Rajendra Godara, the accused is a habitual offender with multiple cases of assault, theft, burglary, and chain-snatching registered against him across police stations in Jaipur city.Godara said that a case was registered on July 10 after complainant Yogendra Khandelwal of SFS Mansarovar reported that two boys on a motorcycle snatched his wife’s gold chain while she was buying vegetables near their home on July 9. Police said that Ram Mohan, a resident of Kalunda Ki Dhani in Nindar near Jaipur, was traced to several locations including Rewari, Narnaul, and Hisar before being located and arrested. Police recovered the stolen gold chain and the motorcycle used in the crime from his possession. The accused reportedly used a calculated modus operandi—targeting women walking alone in residential colonies, especially near alleys and parks. To evade police detection, they concealed their identities with face coverings and lingered in the area post-crime to mislead surveillance efforts.“The arrest was made possible due to a coordinated effort by a dedicated police team that tracked the suspects’ movement through CCTV surveillance and field reconnaissance. Informants were also activated in nearby police jurisdictions, ultimately leading to the breakthrough,” Anand told TOI. Police said that further investigations are underway.
