Jaipur: With the aim of strengthening early childhood education and formal schooling under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, a meeting was organised Wednesday by the department of school education and literacy and the ministry of women and child development where the state govt’s initiative of starting Anganwadi centres within the school campus was praised. The agenda of the meeting focused on the effective implementation of the guidelines for co-location of Anganwadi centres with schools and the necessary steps to be taken in this direction.Officials from the Rajasthan govt stated that operating Anganwadi centres alongside schools led to an increase in primary class enrolment from 98,000 last year to 100,000 this year.Secretary for School Education Krishna Kunal said, “The use of data from holistic cards issued at Anganwadi centres has significantly increased school enrolment. The availability of Anganwadi leaving certificates eliminates the need for any other documents for school admission, leading to an increase in pre-school enrolment this year to 100,000 from 98,000 children last year. In this manner, we can ensure that no child is lost in the process and every child gets school education.“In June this year, the state-level task force on Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) decided to start Bal Vatikas in 237 PM Shri schools in the state. At Anganwadi centres, the ECCE programme focuses on making learning playful for children aged 3-6, to help their linguistic and cognitive development. Under this initiative, monthly meetings with parents are also conducted to track children’s growth and prepare them for schools. As part of ECCE, Anganwadi centres focus on activities to ensure linguistic development, creative development, and cognitive development, along with tracking health indicators and nutritious food distribution. The timetable includes activities like painting or drawing, playing games like abacus, and poetry reciting or storytelling.
