Jaipur: Even as the state govt is advocating simultaneous elections across all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Dec 2025 under the “One State, One Election” initiative, the state election commission is moving ahead with bypolls in four municipal wards across three different districts on Wednesday. The bypolls will take place in Ward 63 of the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Heritage, along with Ward 28 of the Gulabpura Nagar Palika in Bhilwara district and Ward 31 and Ward 34 of the Malpura Nagar Palika in Tonk district. Election officials said that voting in these wards will commence at 7am and conclude at 5pm Wednesday, with counting scheduled to begin at 9am Thursday. Ward 63 of JMC Heritage comprise areas behind the Chandpole Gate, portions of Station Road, Sansar Chandra Road, areas adjacent to Nirwan Marg, Kanti Chandra Road and Mali Colony up to Power House Road. BJP has nominated 45-year-old Ritu Nandwana, while the Congress has fielded 29-year-old Bhanu Saini. Independent candidate Seema Meena, wife of former Congress member Sunil Meena—who switched to BJP—will also be in the running. Sunil Meena’s decision to run his wife as an independent candidate follows BJP’s refusal to grant her a ticket for this woman-reserved seat. The bypoll has been necessitated by the passing of Sushila Devi, the previous Congress councillor for this ward and mother of Meena, in 2024.
