Jaipur: The transport department will start bus operations from the newly developed Heerapura Bus Terminal to Ajmer from Aug 1. The decision was finalised Friday during a meeting held at the RTO Jaipur (I) office, which was attended by representatives of bus operator unions, auto unions, traffic police, and the roadways department. In the first phase, only buses bound for Ajmer will operate from the terminal. Authorities have been directed to ensure alternative arrangements for passengers to commute between the terminal and the main city until permanent connectivity solutions are in place.A senior transport department official said, “This step is aimed at starting operations at the Heerapura bus stand while reducing pressure on Ajmer Road. All roadways and private buses will now operate from the new terminal. To improve accessibility, mini buses and tempos will be introduced for connectivity between the terminal and other parts of the city.”In the first phase, around 500 buses will operate from the terminal. This includes 160 roadways buses, 30 public transport buses, 20 stage carriage buses, and nearly 300 contract carriage buses. Over 15 buses will be deployed for intra-city connectivity.Facilities at the terminal will include overnight parking for buses, a ticket booking window, and basic passenger amenities.Kailash Sharma, president of Private Bus Operator Association Stage Carriage, Jaipur, said, “It has been decided that from Aug 1, all buses towards Ajmer—including roadways, private, stage carriage, and sleeper buses—will operate from Heerapura. We have also requested the development of passenger facilities like drinking water, toilets, waiting areas, and designated parking for private buses.” Sharma said that in the meeting, it was also proposed to operate buses towards Sikar from Heerapura Bus Terminal in the second phase, after strengthening local transport facilities. Meanwhile, private bus operators submitted a request to RTO Jaipur (I) and DCP traffic, seeking permission to run passenger buses from the parking behind Ramniwas Garden to JK Lon via Teen Murti Circle. They argued that the route has wide roads and slip lanes, and recent fines at Narayan Singh Circle are causing losses.“There’s no traffic obstruction on this route, roads are wide with slip lanes. After Narayan Singh Circle became a no-parking zone, heavy fines on passenger buses have caused losses and passenger inconvenience,” said Sharma.
