Jaisalmer: Border Security Force (BSF) personnel performed the traditional ritual of worshipping their weapons on the occasion of Vijayadashami Thursday in Jaisalmer. The event was led by BSF Rajasthan Frontier inspector general M L Garg and BSF DIG Sector South Mahesh Negi. Officers and soldiers from the BSF artillery unit, including commanding officer Shakti Singh Tanwar of the 1055 Artillery Regiment, participated in the ritual. The soldiers offered flowers and recited mantras, treating their weapons as deities. Each weapon, from LMGs and MMGs to 105mm guns, was decorated, marked with tilak, and honoured by breaking coconuts. The atmosphere was charged with patriotic fervour as chants of Bharat Mata Ki Jai echoed across the border post. Tanwar said, “We worship weapons so that god remains with us on the battlefield, and whenever needed, we may use these weapons to hoist the flag of victory and destroy the enemies.” Garg in his address highlighted the BSF’s experience and effectiveness, particularly in countering modern threats such as drones. “Anti-drone systems and air defence measures deployed by the Indian Air Force and Army proved highly effective during Operation Sindoor, and that the BSF is even better prepared for any future incidents. Through this ritual, the BSF not only upholds tradition but also sends a clear message of vigilance and readiness to defend the nation against any threat.”
