Jaipur: With the rain easing on Saturday, Jaipur residents finally got some respite from the wet spell. However, that relief was short-lived as pothole-ridden roads across the city caused significant inconvenience. Water damage from previous showers left deep craters and broken roads, creating traffic snarls and increasing the risk of vehicular accidents throughout the day.At New Sanganer Road, near the Ganga Jamuna petrol pump, a section of the road collapsed. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) installed barricades but the narrowed road led to persistent traffic congestion. Similar scenes were witnessed on Shanti Path and stretches of JLN Marg, where vehicles moved at a crawl. In Adarsh Nagar’s inner areas, Friday’s rain already weakened the roads, forming potholes that made daily travel risky. Two-wheeler riders bore the brunt, with many slipping or losing balance on the damaged stretches. The situation was particularly worrying near the JDA Circle. There, a road that was freshly rebuilt just two months ago, after pipeline work, gave way under the first spell of rain. The incident raised serious concerns about the durability and oversight of civic works.A JDA official said, “We’re repairing roads but problems arise when residents dig up roads to install their own water pipelines. This weakens the soil underneath, causing collapses. Such unauthorised excavations also damage drainage systems, which results in waterlogging.”
