Jaipur: An 18-year-old bride, among five people, was killed and her husband was critically injured when their SUV collided head-on with a truck near Bhatkabass village on Dausa-Manoharpur NH in Jaipur rural district early Wednesday. The wedding party was returning with the bride from MP’s Shahdol district to Udaipurwati in Jhunjhunu district. According to local residents and officials, the two vehicles collided head-on, completely wrecking the SUV and trapping the occupants inside, making the rescue operation difficult.The deceased — Bharti Meena, 18); Jeetu Kumawat, 33; Subhash Meena, 28; Ravi Kumar, 17; and Shravan, 35 — were trapped in the mangled remains of the SUV, said Raisar police station SHO Raghuveer Singh. The grievously injured groom, Vikram Meena (25), a resident of Udaipurwati, sustained serious injuries and was among those admitted to a private hospital along with the other injured.Police said the statements from the injured were being recorded, and efforts were on to notify the families of all victims. The cause of the collision is under investigation, though the police suspect overspeeding. Local residents met senior administration officials following the accident and were assured that a proper road safety audit would be carried out in addition to other measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
