Brace for harsher cold from today, Met warns

Jaipur: Cloudy weather conditions prevailed across Rajasthan on Sunday due to influence of active western disturbances, even as temperatures continued to drop sharply in many regions. Lunkaransar in Bikaner district recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.9°C.According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the first week of Dec is likely to witness severe winter conditions across Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Jaipur divisions. Officials have forecast that minimum temperatures may dip by up to 4°C in the coming week, pushing them into single digits. As the western disturbance system clears out, cold wave conditions are expected to aggravate within the next 24 hours, accompanied by dry northwesterly winds that typically cause a steep temperature decline at night, IMD said.Normal life was significantly affected in northern Rajasthan, particularly in Bikaner division and the Shekhawati region—that spans Churu, Fatehpur, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu districts—where residents faced icy winds and foggy mornings. Reduced visibility disrupted early-morning traffic movement on roads, while attendance at schools, morning markets, and public gatherings remained visibly lower. Many roadside stalls and daily-wage labour activities were delayed due to the harsh weather. In Jaipur, residents woke up to a cloudy morning with the minimum temperature recorded at 13.3°C. The city registered a maximum of 26°C in the afternoon with a temporary cloud cover. IMD officials cautioned that temperatures in Jaipur are set to fall from Monday onward, and by Wednesday the minimum temperature may dip to 10°C or lower. After Lunkaransar, Sriganganagar recorded the lowest temperature at 7.3°C. Pilani and Churu reported 8.5°C, followed by Sikar at 9°C, Nagaur 9.2°C, Jhunjhunu 9.5°C, Karauli 10°C, Dausa 10.2°C, Bikaner 10.8°C, Jaisalmer 11°C, and Barmer 13.6°C.
