Bhilwara: District police and a health department team Sunday busted a racket and arrested a person for making fake Saras ghee by mixing vanaspati ghee and cotton seeds.Food Safety Officer Ashok Yadav said the action was taken under the district-wide “Shuddh Aahar – Milavat Par Vaar” campaign being run on the directions of district collector Jasmeet Singh Sandhu.According to Yadav, Subhash Nagar police received information that fake Saras ghee was being prepared and sold under the Saras name in the police station area. A joint team of Subhash Nagar police and the food safety department then raided a house in front of Bioscope.During the raid, officials found vanaspati and cotton seeds being mixed to make ghee, which was then being packed in Saras-branded packaging.The team collected ghee samples and sent them to the public health laboratory in Jaipur. A representative of Bhilwara Saras was also called to the spot to verify the product.Police registered a case at Subhash Nagar police station under various sections of the BNS and began an investigation.Officials seized 31 tins of 15 kg fake Saras ghee from the spot. Of these, 25 tins carried Ajmer Dairy markings and six carried Bhilwara Dairy markings. Police also seized oil used in making ghee, vanaspati ghee, Saras label papers and equipment used to prepare the fake product.Subhash Nagar police station in-charge Kailash Chandra Bishnoi said, “A raid was conducted on receiving information about fake ghee being prepared in the name of Saras. Tins of fake ghee and other products have been seized. In this case, 45-year-old accused Shankar Lal has been arrested.”
