At late Cong leader’s house, mother and daughter accuse each other of assault

Alwar: A dispute at Jagan Bhavan, Dholpur, the house of late Congress stalwart and former minister Banwari Lal Sharma, has moved beyond the household threshold to reach Kotwali police station.Banwari Lal Sharma’s daughter-in-law, Neerja Sharma, 60, who was BJP’s candidate in Rajakhera for the 2023 assembly polls, has filed a case of assault against her daughter, Malvika Sharma, 36, and son, Dushyant Sharma, 33. She has also stated that when her sister, Varija Sharma, intervened to save her, she, too, was assaulted. In a separate complaint, Malvika Sharma has filed an FIR against her mother and aunt, accusing them of assault, breaking her phone, and harassment. According to her report, she was leaving home for office on Tuesday when her aunt Varija Sharma misbehaved with her. Soon after, Neerja Sharma, her mother, pushed her, causing her phone to fall, and attempted to break it. When her brother came to save her, he was also assaulted. The report further states that since her father Ashok Sharma’s death, her mother has been harassing her for about three-and-a-half years. It also states that the aunt is a US citizen and as she might leave Dholpur for USA, police should act quickly in the case.Neerja Sharma’s complaint stated that she was doing household work when her daughter and son came to her and told her to vacate the house and go elsewhere. When she tried to reason with them, they started hitting her with slaps to her face and threw her on the ground. While they were assaulting her, her sister Varija Sharma came and tried to save her, whereupon she, too, was assaulted. Neerja Sharma alleged that her son and daughter wanted to usurp her house by ousting her.Neerja Sharma’s husband, Ashok Sharma, had previously been Congress’s district president in Dholpur. He died of a heart attack in Aug 2022. Before his death, he, too, had contested on a BJP ticket in 2018 assembly polls from Rajakhera.Former minister Banwari Lal Sharma was a veteran Congress leader who had defeated Vasundhara Raje in the 1993 assembly election from Dholpur.
