Jaisalmer: Nine armed men in two Scorpios tried to abduct a young woman in Balotra district late Wednesday, but her family fought back, forcing the group to flee. The incident in the Kalyanpur police station area was captured on CCTV, and police detained four accused Thursday.Balotra SP Ramesh said a missing person report for the woman was filed at Kalyanpur police station about 1.5 months ago. He said that when police traced her, “she expressed her wish to go with her family members,” after which she was handed over to them. Police said a young man and his associates, angered by this, planned the kidnapping.DSP Shishpal said the attackers arrived at a village home in a Scorpio and entered the house while the woman’s parents, three brothers and sisters were inside. Police said one man stood guard at the door while seven entered with weapons. Children playing in the courtyard ran inside after seeing them.Police said one attacker entered the courtyard with a pistol while another carried a stick. When the woman’s brother came out of a room, the group began retreating. Police said one man tried to load and fire the pistol but failed, after which the brother struck the attackers with an iron stand. As other family members arrived, the group fled in the Scorpio parked outside. A magazine was found at the scene, police said.Police set up barricades after receiving the alert and detained four youths. DSP Vikas Kumar and DSP Shishpal reached the spot with a police team, conducted an inspection and launched raids to trace the remaining suspects.
