Jodhpur/Jaipur: Union home and cooperation Minister Amit Shah said Sunday more needs to be done to improve the lives of divyang persons and added that society, NGOs, and govt must work together to ensure their dignity and empowerment.Shah was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of three Rs 15 crore projects at Shri Parasmal Bohra Blind College in Jodhpur. The projects include Motilal Oswal Gyandeep Bhawan, Rajasthan’s first degree college for visually impaired students, Motilal Oswal Jyoti Sadan, a hostel for visually impaired girls, and HG Foundation Jyoti Bhawan, a boys’ hostel.Shah said budget allocation for the department to empower persons with disabilities was bumped up from Rs 338 cr in 2014 to Rs 1,313 cr in 2025.Citing Paralympic success stories, including medalist Devendra Jhajharia, Shah said India’s tally of just eight medals from 1960 to 2013 jumped to 52 in the last three Games.Motilal Oswal Foundation, funding two of the three projects, also announced an Educational Transformation initiative in Balotra district, pledging Rs 100 crore over the next decade for education and skilling of 1 lakh children. Motilal Oswal group chairman, who grew up in Balotra’s Padru village has pledged 10% of the company’s net worth for philanthropic work.
