Ajmer: The Judicial Magistrate Court Number 2 Friday evening ordered the reopening of all three wings of the elevated Ramsetu road for public traffic, following an undertaking by Rajasthan State Road Development and Construction Corporation Limited (RSRDC). The court also directed the display of a toll-free number for public feedback and a notice confirming that all wings of the elevated road are safe for use.The elevated road, constructed under the Smart City project at a cost of Rs 243 crore, had been closed since July 9 after visible damage appeared on one of its wings following the season’s first rain. The court had earlier converted a suit filed on July 6 into a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to probe the quality of construction and determine accountability. The district administration, along with officials from Smart City and Ajmer Municipal Corporation (AMC), submitted an affidavit by RSRDC project director Charu Mittal, stating that all safety and structural parameters had been tested before opening the road in May 2023. The affidavit confirmed that the partially damaged section near Soniji ki Nasiya, which had triggered concerns, was repaired and that the entire stretch is now safe for traffic. After hearing arguments from all parties, the court allowed the reopening of the road on an interim basis. Following the court’s directions, the district administration opened the elevated road for public traffic late in the evening. The court had earlier noted contradictory responses from AMC and Smart City in their affidavits and ordered a complete shutdown of the elevated road. The PIL’s petitioner, advocate Vivek Parashar, said, the hearing will continue to determine responsibility for the damages and ensure accountability.
