After teacher sacked for misconduct, state govt to set up helpline for students, teachers

Jaipur: Days after the education department dismissed Shambhulal Dhakar, a teacher at Mahatma Gandhi Govt School, Begu in Chittorgarh, for behaving “unethically” and “sexually exploiting minor students in the school premises by pressurising and intimidating them and making videos”, the govt has decided to set up a toll-free helpline number for students and teachers to flag such and other concerns.Officials said the helpline will be made operational in August—a date has not been notified yet—and will work from 8am to 8pm, accepting complaints anonymously. The govt will also conduct sensitisation activities for teachers.“To curb such incidents, a helpline number will be opened to all children and teachers. They can share their problems or issues from anywhere in Rajasthan, and this will be monitored closely by senior officials,” said education secretary Krishna Kunal.A mobile application is also under development, Kunal said. While the identities of complainants will be kept confidential, background verification to check if children making complaints have shown behavioural changes will also be done, he added.
