Raj govt to HC: SI Recruitment 2021 can’t be scrapped over individual irregularities

Jaipur: The state govt Wednesday told a division bench of Rajasthan high court that SI Recruitment-2021 cannot be cancelled solely on the basis of irregularities at an individual level, arguing that “the entire selection system cannot be considered tainted” without proof of widespread, organised wrongdoing. After the state completed its arguments, the court adjourned the hearing to Thursday. The division bench of acting chief justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma and Justice Sangeeta Sharma passed the order while hearing appeals filed by the state govt and others against the single bench decision cancelling the recruitment. The govt cited the Supreme Court’s ruling in Vanshika Yadav’s case, arguing that unless “systematic irregularities at a widespread and organised level” are established, an entire recruitment process cannot be annulled. It said no concrete evidence had emerged in the SI recruitment to show the entire process was tainted. The state also told the court the recruitment followed an extensive, multi-level process, including a written examination, interview and physical examination. It argued that if irregularities are found in some candidates’ cases, action can be taken against them individually, but this should not be used to “play with the future of a large number of honest candidates.”
