Jaipur: The Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) Friday launched a zone-wise crackdown on the sale of tobacco products at dairy booths, kiosks and small vendors across the city. The drive began on Jan 2, aims to stop the sale of tobacco and intoxicants especially near schools and educational institutions.JMC commissioner Gaurav Saini said teams from 13 zones collected around Rs 2 lakh in penalties from dairy booth and stall operators for breaching the rules Friday. “Tobacco products sold at these outlets were also confiscated and the operators were given a final warning,” he said.If any outlet is found selling tobacco within a 100-metre radius of a school or educational institution, its licence will be cancelled. “Our priority is to keep the surroundings of schools safe for children and protect them from harmful effects of tobacco,” he added.Saini said inspection will be held randomly without any prior notice so that effective action against all illegal outlets can be taken.
