Chandpole traders suspend stir, liquor shop to be shifted

Jaipur: More than 500 men and women took part in a protest rally organised by the Chandpole Vyapar Mandal Tuesday against a liquor shop in the market. The rally was held from Chhoti Chaupar to the Hanuman temple, with traders and local residents demanding that the outlet be removed from the area.Following the protest, excise dept officer Mahipal Singh called a meeting in the evening with representatives of the Chandpole Vyapar Mandal and liquor contractor Uday Singh. During the meeting it was agreed that the liquor shop would be shifted to another location within a week. After this assurance, the traders decided to suspend their call for a market shutdown on Dec 31.Subhash Goyal, president of Chandpole Vyapar Mandal, said, “After the meeting in the evening, we withdrew the decision to close the market on Dec 31. If the liquor shop is not shifted within 7 days, we will shut the market again.”Traders said the shop’s location near religious places and in a crowded market area was affecting the dignity of the area and raising concerns about safety.
