Jaisalmer: India’s Armed Forces are conducting one of their largest-ever joint military exercises in the Thar Desert, demonstrating tri-services synergy and advanced warfare capabilities. Under the Southern Command, the Thar Raptor Brigade, along with mechanised formations of the Sudarshan Chakra and Konark Corps, is leading high-intensity combined arms drills under Exercise Trishul, which includes sub-exercises Maru Jwala and Akhand Prahaar. The exercise which started from Oct 30 will conclude on Nov 12.Officials described Trishul as the biggest exercise on the western front since Operation Sindoor, involving nearly 30,000 personnel from the Army, Air Force, and Navy. Designed to validate integrated tactics and technology under realistic battlefield conditions, the exercise highlights India’s capability to fight jointly across multiple domains.Helicopters from the Thar Raptor Brigade are working closely with ground and mechanised forces, executing missions such as surveillance, troop insertion, heliborne operations, and close-support strikes. Commanders emphasised the focus on real-time information sharing, precision targeting, and networked command systems.A major component of Exercise Trishul is Exercise Akhand Prahaar, led by the Konark Corps, focusing on multi-domain operations and integrated battle drills in the desert sector. The exercise tests rapid advances, joint targeting, and synchronised manoeuvres between infantry, armour, and aviation units. It also enhances interoperability across the services and sharpens commanders’ decision-making cycles.Technology plays a pivotal role, with advanced sensors, secure datalinks, and precision munitions enhancing situational awareness and accuracy. Units are also conducting electronic warfare, counter-drone operations, and logistics drills to sustain long-duration, high-tempo missions in austere desert conditions.Sustainment operations are being rigorously tested through long supply chains, medical evacuation drills, and battlefield repair procedures to ensure resilience in extended desert conditions.Senior officers said the exercises are aimed at refining joint tactics, validating command structures, and preparing for future conflicts that demand speed, flexibility, and seamless coordination among the three services.
