Jaipur: Cabinet minister Kirori Lal Meena Wednesday called for a high-level investigation into the death of a nine-year-old girl at Neerja Modi School, accusing the school of erasing evidence of the incident and not cooperating with the authorities.Making another allegation, Meena said the school had encroached upon public land in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area. “There have been long-standing allegations of land encroachment against Neerja Modi School, specifically that it was built over a portion of a public park. This issue has been the subject of public concern and even legal proceedings in the past,” Meena said, calling on Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) to take prompt action.Meena visited the residence of the deceased child and expressed deep grief over the tragic incident, demanding that the school’s role be thoroughly examined.“The school should be investigated for its role in erasing evidence and not cooperating with the authorities. Such behaviour is unacceptable and shows how casually the school has taken the incident,” Meena told reporters.He also urged the state govt to formulate guidelines and response protocols for handling such crises. He said the govt must take note of the rising public anger against what he termed as “unruly and unregulated private schools”.When asked about the influence of private schools, Meena criticised what he described as a nexus between elite schools, politicians, and bureaucrats. “Many of these schools enjoy political and bureaucratic protection because officials’ wards study there. They oblige each other with admissions and favours,” he alleged.Meena further said that public outrage is justified and pledged his support for citizens if protests arise. “People are very angry. If any protest takes place, I will be the first to stand with the people. I urge everyone to raise their voice against such schools,” he said.
