Jaipur: Walled City Saturday witnessed heavy traffic owing to influx of domestic as well as foreign tourists.Officials claimed that since Saturday, the traffic pressure inside the Walled City and elsewhere in Jaipur was huge owing to Dhanteras, Choti Diwali, and Diwali celebrations. Although the situation improved in other parts of the city, the Walled City remained congested throughout the week, and traffic congestion was reported from different locations inside the Walled City Saturday.“It was a state holiday from last Saturday (Oct 18) till Thursday for Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Dooj celebrations. But there was a heavy footfall of tourists inside the Walled City since Wednesday. The number of tourists increased significantly from Friday evening. As a result, areas along the Badi Chaupar, Choti Chaupar, Tripolia Bazaar and Chandpole Bazaar were congested Saturday,” a traffic official said.The problem escalated as tourist vehicles, including big buses, reached tourist destinations inside the Walled City Saturday. As space inside the parking lots of the City Palace got crunched, several vehicles were compelled to park on the main roads, reducing the width of the flanks.“The most affected area was the Badi Chaupar crossing where vehicles started parking on the opposite flank of the Hawa Mahal. A few vehicles were also found parked on the other side of Hawa Mahal Road. There were congestions on the stretch of Hawa Mahal Road and Amer Road as several of these tourist vehicles headed towards the Nahargarh and Jaigarh forts,” another official said.The Jaipur traffic had put a plan in place, and officials claimed that it helped to reduce congestion.“We are apprehending that the situation would remain the same even on Sunday. From Monday, schools, colleges, and offices would start full-fledged in Jaipur, and traffic would increase across the city,” another official said.
