Jaipur: National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG exam was conducted Sunday in 25 cities of the state amid heavy security. In Jaipur, 90 centres were set up where over 36,000 candidates appeared for the exam. Over 2 lakh candidates appeared for the exam in the state this year.
Candidates started arriving at exam centres from 11am onwards, and entry was closed at 1:30pm, half an hour before the exam. Candidates were checked in five stages, from the entry gate to the exam hall, which included biometric and documentation verification. During security inspection, candidates were told to remove garlands, chains, and threads tied on wrists. At a few centres, candidates were also asked to remove their shoes and girls had to remove hair accessories and nose pins. The candidates were also not allowed to take their own pens into the exam centres and were instead given these by the centre administration.
In Jaipur, candidates were first checked at the entry gate where the admit card and two passport-size photos along with identity card were checked. Thereafter, candidates went through metal detectors, and any gadget or even a pen was not allowed inside. This was followed by biometrics like fingerprint scans, and signature and document verification of candidates.
In Kota, at a few centres, flower petals were showered on candidates when they were entering the exam centres to motivate them. When the candidates came out of the centres after completing the exam, they were welcomed with applause by parents and centre authorities.
Biometric system slow in places
At some centres in Kota and Bharatpur districts, biometric verification system was slow during the day due to which candidates were sent into the exam hall without verification. However, the biometric verification was completed after the exam. Due to this, parents protested outside some exam centres as candidates exited late.
