Jaipur: A man’s house was vandalised and set on fire in Churu late Saturday night, allegedly due to resentment related to an inter-caste love marriage.
Police arrested 14 individuals Sunday, including members of the girl’s family, for arson and rioting.
According to police, Sanwarmal Acharya (47) filed a complaint at the district’s Sardarshahar police station, stating that his nephew Sandeep married Anuradha Suthar, daughter of Sitaram Suthar, against her family’s wishes. The marriage reportedly triggered anger among several villagers and the girl’s relatives.
Sanwarmal alleged that a mob of 35–40 people attacked his house with the intent to kill. The attackers vandalised property and set the house on fire. A case was registered under multiple sections related to attempted murder, arson, and rioting.
Upon receiving the alert, a police team led by additional SP Lokendra Dadwal, DSP Rameshwar Lal Saran, and SHO Madanlal Bishnoi, along with fire brigade personnel, rushed to the spot. The fire was brought under control by the fire and police departments.
