Banswara: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday raised the pitch on “swadeshi” pride and energy future, while calling higher taxes prior to 2014 a Congress-era loot.After laying foundation stone for Rs 42,000-crore Mahi Banswara Atomic Power Project, comprising four indigenously designed 700MW reactors, PM Modi pushed for “swadeshi shopping”, calling it a national duty.“What we buy should be swadeshi, what we sell should be swadeshi. Every rupee spent on Indian goods stays in the country, strengthening workers, artisans,and roads. This festive season, let us pledge to buy only swadeshi,” he appealed, urging citizens to wear “swadeshi” as a badge of pride.While speaking on the GST savings festival, he launched a sharp attack on Congress, contrasting today’s tax regime with Congress-era rates. He said essentials like soap, toothpaste, and shampoo once cost Rs 131 but now stands at just Rs 105 after GST reforms. “Mothers and sisters who run households know the value of every rupee. Families today are saving hundreds of rupees every month,” he told the crowd.Giving examples, Modi said shoes are Rs 50 cheaper, two-wheelers are taxed at half the earlier rate, and a bag of cement is Rs 40 less costly. “This is not just reform, it is relief. Earlier govts thrived on exploitation, our govt thrives on savings for the poor,” he said.He unveiled and launched development works worth over Rs 1.22 lakh crore across the country, with Rajasthan accounting for Rs 1.08 lakh crore of it. Complementing the nuclear push, Modi inaugurated solar projects in Phalodi, Jaisalmer, Jalore, and Sikar, and laid foundation stones for new parks in Bikaner and Andhra Pradesh.
