Ajmer/Jaipur: A brain dead 16-year-old boy saved three lives Monday, when his family decided to donate his kidneys and liver. A green corridor was created between Ajmer and Jaipur to transport these organs. A team from Jaipur, including heart surgeon Dr Sanjeev Devgoda and others, was in Ajmer to assist in retrieving the organs. Ajmer North MLA and Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani also visited the hospital and honoured the donor’s family.The superintendent of JLN Hospital, Dr Arvind Khare told TOI that Durga Shanker Gujjar (16), from Kanoj village in Ajmer was a class 9 student. Durga had been complaining since Sept 16 of constant headaches and vomiting. He was admitted to JLN Hospital, where doctors declared him brain dead Monday. “His father, Jawan Ram and his two brothers, Ravi Shanker and Dinesh, along with his sister, Sama, who is pursuing a Bachelors in Nursing, gave permission to donate Durga’s organs,” said Dr Anil Samariya, principal and controller of JLN Medical College and Hospital. “The entire staff and family of JLN Hospital praised the family for such a donation,” said Dr Khare. The district administration prepared a green corridor to transport these organs to the SMS Hospital in Jaipur for transplant. SMS hospital’s head of the department (urology), Dr Shivam Priyadarshi said, “A kidney was transplanted into a 41-year-old man who was suffering from hypertension and he was on hemodialysis due to kidney failure since 2020 having no operative history. The other recipient of the two kidneys donated by the donor was transplanted into a 60-year-old woman who was suffering from hypertension and hypothyroidism and she was on hemodialysis since 2020 due to kidney failure.“A SMS hospital official said that liver was transplanted into a patient for giving him new lease of life.
