Jaipur woman arrested for duping man in fake gold chain fraud

Jaipur: A 43-year-old woman accused of duping a man by selling fake gold chains worth over Rs 23 lakh was arrested, city police said Thursday.SHO (Shyam Nagar) Dalbeer Singh Faujdar identified the accused as Dipti Jain, a resident of Jai Jawan Colony on Tonk Road. Police said Dipti was running Women’s Hub, a boutique on Tonk Road, when she allegedly defrauded complainant Suneel Jain. Interestingly, just days ago she had been reported missing from her house. A missing persons report (MPR) was filed, and Bajaj Nagar police traced her on Wednesday. As per Faujdar, according to the FIR lodged in May, Dipti approached Suneel claiming she suffered heavy business losses and fell into debt. Playing on his sympathy, she convinced him to buy 22 gold chains, which she claimed weighed 270 grams, for over Rs 23 lakh. “The victim later discovered that the chains were fake and held no real value,” SHO Faujdar said. The complaint was registered, and police subsequently tracked and arrested Dipti.Investigations revealed that Dipti has a history of similar offences. “She already has cases filed against her at Malviya Nagar, Manak Chowk, and Adarsh Nagar police stations, besides Shyam Nagar,” Faujdar said. He added that three more complainants approached them since her arrest, and more FIRs are likely.“The prima facie probe suggests Dipti may have duped several people in the same manner. We are trying to ascertain whether other victims exist who may not have reported their losses,” Faujdar said. Dipti is currently being interrogated to determine the extent of her involvement in similar scams.
