Jaipur: An IndiGo flight, carrying 140 passengers from Kolkata, hovered over Jaipur airport for 13 minutes after the pilot failed to land on first attempt. Officials said this was the third incident at Jaipur airport where aircraft failed to land on the runway on the first attempt. “The IndiGo flight took off from Kolkata at 11.30am Wednesday and reached Jaipur at around 1.45pm. Although the air traffic controller asked the pilot to land, the pilot failed on the first attempt. It hovered over the airport for around 13 minutes and then landed,” said an official. On Sept 14, another IndiGo flight from Kolkata reached Jaipur at 6.13pm. During this time, the aircraft hovered for 17 minutes after the pilot failed to land on the first attempt. Finally, the flight landed around 6.31pm. In a similar incident, on Sept 11, an Air India Express flight from Hyderabad faced a similar situation when the pilot failed to land on the first occasion. It hovered over the airport for 30 minutes and landed around 8.40am. “This is not a major safety issue. A pilot failing to land on the first attempt is not a rare case. This can happen due to multiple reasons,” stated an aviation expert. IndiGo spokesperson was not available for comment.
