Kota: A 19-year-old married Dalit woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan in a room of the govt-run Sakhi One Stop Centre, meant to support women affected by abuse or violence, under Jhalawar police station area Tuesday.The woman, belonging to the Scheduled Caste community, lived in Bhalata police station area of Jhalawar district. She had eloped with a youth from a nearby village a few days ago. Police, acting on a missing report filed by her husband, rescued the woman and sent her to the Sakhi One Stop Centre in Jhalawar on Monday after both her husband and the youth she eloped with refused to accept her.Kin of the deceased woman, who belong to Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh, refused a postmortem on Wednesday, demanding a murder case against police staff of Bhalta police station, the staff of the Sakhi centre, and the youth she eloped with. Jhalawar SP Amit Kumar ordered a magisterial inquiry into the matter, assuring them of stern action based on the probe report.The woman’s family is still not ready for an autopsy, and the body has been kept in the mortuary, the SP said.
