Jaipur: Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Monday directed the officials that construction and repair work in dilapidated govt schools be completed within a fixed time frame and that an executing agency be appointed by the school education department to ensure accountability. Emphasising community participation, he said, “We must encourage philanthropists and prominent citizens to join hands in the construction and repair of school buildings.”The CM said this while reviewing state budget announcements concerning school, higher, technical, and Sanskrit education at a meeting in the chief minister’s office.“Detailed reports must be sought on the deterioration of institutions built in recent years, and expenses on construction and repair must be continuously monitored. Accountability for poor-quality work must be a key condition in all construction contracts,” Sharma said.To speed up repairs, the chief minister ordered that “20% of the funds permitted under the Dang, Magra, and Mewat Regional Development Plan be used on priority for school building maintenance.” He instructed officials to expand classrooms and other facilities in proportion to student numbers and said that “wherever there is a significant number of specially-abled students, wheelchair facilities must be provided.”Sharma called for an action plan to install solar power plants on rooftops of schools and colleges, noting, “This will not only meet their energy needs but will also strengthen the basic infrastructure of our educational institutions.” He further directed that “dining halls in Kasturba Gandhi Residential Girls’ Schools be developed as multi-purpose halls.”He also discussed the proposed sports school at Khedli-Gurjar in Bharatpur, to be developed on the lines of the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports in Patiala, and issued directions for its project plan.On higher education initiatives, the chief minister said, “Prepare an effective plan for the Corporate Certification Programme and ensure the regular availability of master trainers so that students can receive continuous training.”Reviewing the creation of smart classrooms and ICT labs in selected universities and colleges, he instructed that “proper maintenance of all equipment must be ensured.”He also examined the Foreign Language Communication Skill Scheme, directing that “more aspiring trainees be enrolled, courses be made employment-oriented, and examinations conducted at training centres so that successful trainees can secure employment abroad.“
