Maid, accomplice held for Rs 25 lakh theft in Jaipur’s Civil Lines

Jaipur: The city police Friday cracked a major theft in the Civil Lines area with the arrest of a domestic help and her accomplice for allegedly stealing gold jewellery and valuables worth nearly Rs 25 lakh from the residence of a Jaipur family.DCP (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said that the case came to light on September 2 when a Civil Lines resident reported that her maid stole her ornaments and other items with her accomplience. The accused were identified as Meena Sutradhar (27), a native of Assam and Chandra Prakash Sharma (40), a resident of Jaipur, residing in Sodala as a tenant.“Given the sensitivity of theft, a special team was formed under senior officers, led by Sodala SHO Rajesh Sharma. To track down the suspects, CCTV footage from the locality and city exit routes were scrutinised” said Varma, adding that both Meena and Chandra Prakash were arrested and later confessed to the crime.Varma said that during interrogation, the duo admitted pawning most of the stolen ornaments at gold loan companies and hiding rest at home. Based on their disclosures, police recovered the entire booty — gold jewellery, coins, necklaces, chains, rings, earrings, and bracelets — collectively valued at around Rs 25 lakh.Police said further investigation is on to determine if the duo is linked to other similar thefts.
