Alwar: A 60-year-old transgender leader, Madhu Sharma, popularly known as Guru Madhu Sharma, was shot dead by a bike-borne assailant in Neemrana Wednesday afternoon near Molhadia village in Neemrana of Kotputli-Behror district. The incident triggered panic in the area and protests by the transgender community. The assailant was caught on CCTV arriving on a motorbike, firing at close range, and fleeing the spot.Madhu and her companions had gathered near Molhadia village to collect celebratory contributions during Diwali festivities. CCTV footage showed the attacker approaching while Madhu was seated in a vehicle under a tree, firing a bullet to her head before escaping. She was rushed to a private hospital in Neemrana, where doctors declared her dead. Madhu Sharma was an active social worker, who supported education of underprivileged children and had also adopted more than a dozen orphaned children. Soon after the incident, Neemrana Additional SP Shalini Raj, along with other police officials, reached the spot. SP Kotputli-Behror Devendra Bishnoi said CCTV footage has been secured and a special team has been formed to trace the accused. As news of the killing spread, large numbers of transgender community members gathered at the Neemrana CHC, where Madhu’s body was kept in the mortuary. Protests broke out, prompting authorities to deploy additional police forces from Shahjahanpur, Mandhan, and Neemrana to prevent escalation. Senior officers, including SP Bishnoi, Additional SP Raj, and DSP Sachin Sharma, remained at the site to pacify the community and assure them of swift action.
