Jaipur: City police intensified their crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi nationals with a second consecutive day of coordinated searches and interrogations across multiple parts of the city Thursday.
The drive follows heightened security directives issued by chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma Wednesday, instructing police to identify and deport foreign nationals residing illegally in the state.
According to officials, Wednesday’s operation was launched across all four districts under Jaipur Commissionerate from 4am to 8am. The raids were conducted discreetly, based on confidential intelligence inputs, and were supervised by additional commissioner of police (law and order) Rameshwar Singh, under the overall monitoring of police commissioner Biju George Joseph.
“We detained over 100 individuals Wednesday. Preliminary verification shows at least 35 of them were in possession of forged documents. We are now examining their mobile data, WhatsApp activity, call records, and financial transactions linked to Bangladesh,” said an official.
Those found residing illegally are being moved to the Alwar detention centre. Deportation proceedings will be initiated following document verification. Police are also probing the network of agents and individuals who allegedly facilitated the procurement of fake Aadhaar cards, Jan Aadhaar, PAN cards, and voter IDs for these immigrants.
Sources said areas like Hasanpura, Daulpura, and Bhankrota have emerged as high-risk zones with a significant concentration of undocumented foreign nationals. In a similar operation in Oct last year, 11 Bangladeshi nationals were deported from Bhankrota for illegal residency. Officials added that Thursday’s follow-up action included interrogation of the individuals detained a day earlier. “Some of them claimed to possess valid documents, but we are verifying their authenticity,” said an officer.
