Jaipur: Educate Girls, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving girls’ education in India, which has been awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025, began its work in Pali district in 2008, with a pilot program aimed at increasing girls’ attendance and retention in 500 govt schools.Over the years, Educate Girls has expanded its reach across 12 districts in Rajasthan, including Pali, Jalore, Sirohi, Ajmer, Bundi, Rajsamand, Bhilwara, Udaipur, Jhalawar, Banswara, Jaisalmer, and Balotra. The organisation has successfully mobilised over 7 lakh girls back to school in the state, contributing to a nationwide total of over 2 million girls re-enrolled in education.Educate Girls operates through two key initiatives: the Vidya program, which ensures school enrollment for girls up to 14 years, and the Pragati initiative, which offers a second chance for adolescent girls and women aged 15-29 to complete their education, thereby enhancing their employment prospects. The organisation’s success is largely attributed to its network of over 23,000 ‘Team Balika’ volunteers. These ground-level workers identify out-of-school girls and facilitate their return to formal education by leveraging existing govt infrastructure.
