Jaipur: Over 200 students from different hostels of the University of Rajasthan held a rally on the university campus on Monday midnight over poor sanitary conditions in the hostels. The services here are affected as the sanitation staff has been on strike for almost two weeks.Students alleged that the university administration became a mute spectator to the mismanagement in the hostels. Students living in Ambedkar Hostel, Aravali Hostel, HJ Bhabha Hostel, JC Bose Hostel, and CV Raman Hostel of Rajasthan University participated in the protest. “The hostels have not been cleaned for the last several days. The condition of the toilets has also deteriorated and can lead to diseases and infections among students. We have lodged complaints with the university administration several times regarding the matter, but no concrete action has been taken,” said Ankit, one of the protesting students. Santosh Mehra, a research fellow at RU, said, “The university assured us that our demands would be met within a day, but no cleaning was done till Tuesday evening. Initially, we thought that the university would hold talks and resolve the strike of sanitation workers, but even after two weeks, no action has been taken, and students are getting affected now.” Police were called to the spot by the university administration and forces were deployed outside the vice-chancellor’s residence. RU staff via pvt agencies to hold one-day strike Support staff working through private agencies in Rajasthan University will hold a one-day strike Wednesday at the campus, demanding arrears to be paid. tnn
