Jaipur: Heavy rainfall was witnessed at many places in Jaipur, Kota, and Udaipur divisions Monday. A flood-like situation was observed in Kota, where teams of SDRF, civil defence, and disaster management were engaged in evacuating stranded people to safer places from several villages. The state capital also experienced torrential rainfall in the evening from 5.20pm till 8.15pm, which brought the city to a standstill for hours. Ramganjmandi (Kota) received 240 mm of rainfall, the highest in the state.According to the Jaipur Met office, 111.5mm of rainfall was recorded at Sinchai Bhavan and 74.2mm at the IMD observatory at Jaipur airport. “This was the season’s highest single-day rainfall so far. Also, rainfall activity was torrential and widespread for the first time this season,” said a Met officer. Many areas in the city experienced heavy flooding, and people got stuck on their way back home and to offices. For Tuesday, the Jaipur Met office issued a warning for heavy rainfall for Jaipur city and the entire Jaipur district. The Kota district administration remained on alert due to the heavy rainfall over the past two days. Meanwhile, around 150 families were rescued from the village of Kudaila in Ramganjmandi area, and 100 people in Deolikurd were relocated to safe places. At least 13 of the 27 gates of the newly constructed Novnera Dam under the ERCP project were opened for the first time Monday after testing last year. At least 8400 MCM of water was released from 13 gates of Novnera Dam since early Monday morning, a junior engineer at the said on Monday noon. The Met office said heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at several places in Udaipur, Kota, Jaipur, and Ajmer divisions.
