HC halts demolition of 500-yr-old house near Ajmer dargah

Jaipur: The Rajasthan High Court has issued a stay order on the demolition of a house belonging to a 71-year-old man, located behind the Ajmer Dargah, until his appeal against the demolition drive is heard. The property, which belongs to Abdul Sattar, has reportedly been in his family’s possession for over 500 years, spanning 10 to 12 generations. The forest department ordered its demolition. “We maintained in court that earlier we approached the Civil Judge (West), Ajmer, through a civil suit to seek relief of permanent and perpetual injunction. Responding to this, notices were issued to the forest officers and, on Feb 2, after hearing both parties, the trial court asked the authorities to restrain from demolishing the disputed property until the next date,” said Syed Sadaat Ali, counsel for the petitioner.
