Jaipur: A division bench of Rajasthan High Court Monday issued notices to the Union and state govts, giving them four weeks to explain their action plan and efforts to curb cyber crime and increasing cases of digital arrests. During the hearing, Chief Justice MM Shrivastava, in a verbal comment, said he also escaped being a victim of digital arrest in one instance.“Once I received a call in which there was a person in uniform. I immediately handed over my phone to the registrar to deal with that call. This is a big problem and menace,” said the CJ.The bench of Chief Justice Shrivastava and Justice Manish Sharma was hearing the matter that the HC took suo motu cognisance of in Jan this year. “Innocent people have not only lost their earnings, but many have also lost their lives. People from every sector are being affected by digital arrest and cyber crime. In such a situation, there is a need to protect the common people from these crimes and take concrete action against them,” said the court.The court in Jan had said, “Serious steps also need to be taken at the RBI level so that money from such fraudulent transactions is not transferred and fraudulent transactions are curbed.”
