Jaipur: A real estate businessman was shot at outside a gym on Sriganganagar’s Jassa Singh Road in broad daylight Tuesday. Ashish Gupta, 50, was attacked by two men on a motorcycle just after he stepped out of his workout session. He sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was quickly taken to a private hospital, where he remains under treatment.A social media post went viral after the shootout, in which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility. Police, however, said the authenticity of the post is under investigation and that a rivalry is not being ruled out as the motive behind the attack.The shooting was captured on CCTV. Footage shows Gupta standing outside the gym, speaking on the phone, when one of the attackers approaches and opens fire. In a desperate attempt to escape, Gupta runs back into the gym through a side gate, prompting the gunman to retreat. The second man, who is waiting nearby, joins him, and the two flee the scene the same way they arrived.Residents of the area reported hearing multiple gunshots. A team from Kotwali police station arrived at the scene and recovered several spent cartridges. Police set up checkpoints across the district and began reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas.Gupta is a known property developer in Sriganganagar, with several residential projects under his name.The social media post claiming responsibility for the attack was shared from a Facebook account under the name Anmol Bishnoi, claimed the Lawrence group was behind the shooting. It named two men—Hari Boxer and Arzu—as the shooters, stating they acted on Bishnoi’s instructions. The post also accused Gupta of land fraud and issued a final warning to him.Several prominent businesspersons in districts bordering Punjab, including Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh, are under threat from organised criminal gangs. Some of them have even been provided police security following threat assessments.
