Central Park walkers oppose JDA sports complex plan
Signature campaign by morning walkers inside Central Park

Jaipur: Morning walkers and residents launched a signature campaign at Central Park Saturday against Jaipur Development Authority’s (JDA) proposed sports complex, saying it would compromise the park’s peaceful character.Organised by Central Park Bachao Sangharsh Committee, the campaign drew senior citizens, women and children. The committee will send the petition and a deputation to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma by speed post.“How can the govt hand over public property to a private operator?” asked committee convener Yogesh Yadav. Citing a JDA notice prohibiting football, cricket, volleyball, badminton and sports competitions inside the park, he said the space was meant for recreation and tranquillity, not commercial activities.JDA plans to build the complex at a cost of Rs 5.95 crore. Financial approval was granted in June, and construction is expected to begin soon.Social worker Mamta Maheshwari said the park’s calm atmosphere attracted regular visitors. “If machines, crowds and paid facilities enter, where will ordinary people go?” she asked.Advocate Vijay Singh Poonia said the agitation would continue until JDA withdraws the proposal, warning that the project would affect regular visitors, particularly senior citizens, women and children.
