Kota: A 13-year-old girl from Baran district’s tribal Mogia community was allegedly assaulted and subjected to sexual abuse Monday, leading to critical injuries that required urgent surgical intervention at a Kota govt hospital.The incident occurred at a village under Kasba Thana police station.Medical staff at Baran District Hospital reported to police that the minor survivor was brought in with excessive bleeding and critical injuries Monday evening, prompting her referral later that night to the govt-run JK Lon Hospital in Kota for urgent treatment.“The girl was brought to us in a critical state, and after assessing her injuries, we confirmed signs of criminal assault and sexual abuse,” a doctor at JK Lon Hospital said.“We managed to stabilise her condition after successfully controlling the bleeding with surgical intervention Tuesday,” he added.Despite the severity of her injuries, the girl’s parents resisted filing a police report and declined her medico-legal examination.Police, however, acted on doctors’ observations and registered a suo motu case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against a yet-unidentified assailant Tuesday night.The girl’s medico-legal examination was conducted Wednesday without parental consent.“No formal statement or report has been provided by either the survivor or her parents,” said Kasba Thana SHO Yogesh Sharma.He said the family was reluctant to cooperate with investigators, which he added could be a possible indication of the involvement of a close family member in the crime.Police said the girl’s mother rejected the need for a formal medical examination and insisted that nothing had happened despite overwhelming medical evidence to the contrary.“The initial refusal from the family to acknowledge the obvious abuse complicated the investigation,” said Dy SP Hemant Gautam. “Nevertheless, we are committed to ensuring justice in the matter,” he added.Doctors treating the girl said Wednesday that she was out of danger following surgery.
