Jaipur: Congress Mahila Congress national president Alka Lamba Wednesday accused BJP and RSS of undermining democracy through alleged electoral manipulation, announcing that 10 lakh people would gather in Delhi on Nov 1 as part of the party’s campaign to protect the Constitution and the electoral system.Addressing a news conference in Jaipur, Lamba alleged, “Modi govt has been engaged in vote ‘chori’ (theft) since it assumed office, but this has surfaced only now and has become an issue.”Referring to leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi’s repeated allegations of electoral irregularities, she said, “He has been saying for years how that the mandate has been stolen. There are many examples where BJP formed the govt even when people were angry.”Lamba also alleged that those responsible for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination were now seeking to weaken constitutional institutions. Appealing to women to join the campaign, she said they must play an active role in protecting democracy.“This is a battle that has to be fought. Women cannot remain behind,” she said, expressing confidence that Rajasthan would send its largest contingent to the Delhi gathering on Nov 1.Commenting on BJP’s proposed ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally in Delhi, Lamba said the party had effectively endorsed Congress’s campaign by adopting the same slogan. “If BJP is holding a rally with the banner ‘Samvidhan Bachao’, it means they are siding with Rahul Gandhi,” she said.
