Jaisalmer: Villagers of Panche Ka Tala gram panchayat in Jaisalmer district have sought an inquiry into the alleged transfer of 45 voters’ names to the electoral rolls of Khariya gram panchayat without proper verification or their consent. The villagers submitted a complaint to the district election officer and district collector Saturday, seeking scrutiny of the records and documents used to shift the entries ahead of the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections. The complainants, including Nizamuddin and other residents, alleged that the 45 voters were original residents of Panche Ka Tala and had no houses or supporting documents establishing their residence in Khariya. They claimed that the names were included in Khariya’s electoral rolls without following the prescribed procedure, including mandatory document checks and verification of residence. The villagers have demanded that the administration examine the relevant records to establish the basis on which the names were transferred and determine whether electoral rules were followed. They have also sought appropriate action if the inquiry establishes irregularities. The controversy has surfaced ahead of the Panchayati Raj elections, when delimitation and the preparation of electoral rolls determine voters’ representation in rural local bodies. The complainants said verification was necessary to ensure that voters were listed in the appropriate gram panchayat and that electoral rolls were prepared in accordance with the prescribed rules. The allegations are yet to be verified by the administration. The circumstances surrounding the transfer of the 45 names and whether due procedure was followed will become clear after the relevant records are examined.
