Jaipur: Congress state president Govind Singh Dotasra Wednesday called off the party’s sit-in at Jaipur Police Commissionerate after police issued a written refusal to register a zero FIR over the alleged assault on NSUI national secretary Ritu Barala by a woman Delhi Police constable. The protest began Monday evening, with senior Congress members and workers staying at the commissionerate for two nights to press for registration of the FIR. The party will now challenge the police decision in court.Barala approached Moti Dungri police station on Oct 19 over the alleged incident in Delhi on Oct 13. In a written response dated Oct 21, Jaipur East DCP office said she had already submitted a complaint at Connaught Place police station in Delhi. The response stated that registering a zero FIR was not legally permissible because a complaint had already been submitted to the concerned police station in Delhi.Police commissioner Sachin Mittal met the protesters and reiterated that a zero FIR would not be registered. Congress ended the sit-in after receiving the written response.Dotasra accused Rajasthan Police of misinterpreting BNSS and Supreme Court guidelines. He questioned why a zero FIR had been registered in Kerala in a related case involving another student, while police had refused to do so in Barala’s case. Congress maintained that the law applies uniformly across the country.“The protest may be over at the police commissionerate, but this marks the beginning of the legal battle. The party will not rest until Rajasthan’s daughter Ritu Barala gets justice,” Dotasra said, adding that Congress would seek accountability from officials who refused to register the FIR.The protest ended days before the panchayat elections, with the party shifting its efforts from agitation to legal proceedings.
