Kota: Two more women developed kidney-related complications a day after undergoing Caesarean deliveries at New Medical College Hospital (NMCH) in Kota Wednesday, reviving concerns about the hospital’s maternity care. The incident comes five months after 12 women suffered acute kidney failure postpartum at the same hospital in May, five of whom died, while seven others recovered after treatment.Reshma (40), a resident of Chhawni in Kota, and Anita (30), from Nimoda Hariji village in the district, underwent C-sections in the hospital’s gynaecology department on Wednesday. It was Reshma’s fourth C-section and Anita’s second. Both developed complications related to urine output Thursday morning.Reshma’s family shifted her to a private hospital, where she is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Anita was transferred to the ICU in NMCH’s super-specialty block (SSB).Speaking to TOI Friday, SSB superintendent Dr Ashutosh Sharma confirmed that both women developed complications after their surgeries. He said Anita’s condition was stable, with her urine output recorded at 600 ml at 10am Friday. He added that other women who underwent similar procedures around the same time remained stable.Anita’s husband, Hansraj Bairwa, alleged that the family struggled for three hours to arrange single-donor platelets prescribed by doctors. They were directed to JK Lone Hospital after being told the required equipment at NMCH was not working, but he said they could not obtain the platelets by evening.Hansraj said Anita was stable and showing signs of recovery Friday. Their newborn daughter was also healthy, he added.Medical committees in Kota, Jaipur, Jodhpur and Delhi investigated the earlier cases, examining surgical materials, possible infection sources and procedural lapses. However, the underlying cause remained undetermined.
