Jaipur: A speeding Rajasthan Roadways bus rammed into two cars and a scooter in front of Khetan Hospital on Sikar Road Wednesday afternoon, killing a 49-year-old woman and leaving a scooter rider with a fractured leg.The collision around 2.45pm left the scooter crushed beneath the bus’s front tyre and damaged both cars, highlighting the danger posed when heavy passenger buses lose control on busy city roads. The deceased, Tulsi Devi, a resident of Bhagat Dhani, was returning home with her elder son from Vidhyadhar Nagar when the bus hit the vehicles. She sustained serious injuries in the collision and died on the way to hospital.Murlipura SHO Virendra Kuril said the bus first rammed into two cars before hitting the scooter. The collision also damaged both cars, police said. The crash drew the attention of bystanders, who caught the bus driver, Rakesh Kumar (30), a resident of Shrimadhopur, and handed him over to police.During preliminary questioning, Kumar claimed an object had become lodged beneath the brake mechanism, preventing the brakes from working. Police are investigating the claim and have not yet established what caused the bus to hit the three vehicles. The damaged vehicles have been taken to Murlipura police station for examination. Police are questioning the driver and investigating the circumstances leading to the crash.“The driver was detained for questioning. An FIR is being registered in the case,” said an official, adding that ascertaining whether the bus suffered a mechanical failure or the driver was responsible will be central to the investigation.
