Jhunjhunu: Police arrested a 56-year-old man carrying a reward of Rs 35,000 from Dehradun Saturday for allegedly cheating around 30 students of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of arranging B Ed degrees.The accused had been absconding for nearly 18 years and allegedly taught chemistry at coaching institutes across 17 states while evading arrest.Sikar Kotwali police, along with the Jaipur Range IG team, arrested Kalyan Singh, a resident of Borta village in Jalore district, from his house in Premnagar, Dehradun. The team reportedly posed as Airtel Fiber technicians to reach him.Sikar Kotwali SHO Sunil Kumar Jangid said Singh and his associate, Vikas Saxena, ran a competitive exam coaching centre, General Education Centre, in Ashok Vihar, Sikar, in 2007-08. They allegedly promised students preparing for RAS and govt teacher recruitment examinations that they would arrange B Ed degrees from Noida and Ghaziabad.The duo allegedly collected Rs 70,000 to Rs 80,000 each from around 30 students but failed to arrange the degrees. Between 2008 and 2013, police registered 23 FIRs against them. Saxena was arrested, while Singh remained absconding and was later declared a proclaimed offender by a court. A reward of Rs 35,000 was announced for his arrest.During preliminary questioning, police found that Singh had studied engineering and allegedly taught chemistry at coaching institutes in 17 states, including Delhi and Hyderabad, while concealing his identity. He had also severed contact with his family and relatives and bought a house in Dehradun using money from the alleged fraud and his earnings.Police are questioning Singh to establish further details of the cases and trace his movements during his years on the run.
