ATM robbery mastermind held in Jaipur, Rs 4L recovered

Jaipur: Police Wednesday arrested the alleged mastermind of the Sept 14 bank robbery in Ramnagariya and recovered Rs 4 lakh of the looted cash from him. They also seized a country-made pistol, two magazines and six live cartridges allegedly used in the robbery.DCP (Jaipur East) Ranjita Sharma said two motorcycle-borne men had robbed bank employees of a bag containing around Rs 42 lakh at gunpoint near Akshaya Patra temple in the Ramnagariya area. The employees were carrying the cash after withdrawing it from an ATM.The accused, Mastram Meena alias Masti (28), had been absconding in Kota, Coimbatore and other places since the robbery, police said. Investigators traced him to Indira Gandhi Nagar in Jaipur and arrested him. Police recovered Rs 4 lakh of the looted money from him, along with the pistol, magazines and cartridges.Police said investigators examined CCTV footage along possible routes used by the accused and prepared a route map. They concluded that the robbery followed reconnaissance, as the bank had no fixed schedule for withdrawing cash from the ATM and the machine had accumulated a large amount after three consecutive holidays.Four people have now been arrested in the case. Anshu Kumar Jatav (22) of Bharatpur was arrested on Sept 16, while Sumit Jangam (26) and Pushpendra Meena (28), both from Karauli and living in Jaipur, were arrested on Sept 23. Mastram was the fourth accused arrested. Police said Rs 38 lakh of the looted cash had been recovered so far.
