Jaipur: Rajasthan’s Vayam Lamba made a big splash in the ongoing Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub-Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton tournament being played at the Sawai Mansingh Indoor Stadium here on Wednesday.After two impressive victories, Vayam not only entered the U-15 boys singles quarterfinals but also secured his place in the last 8 of the doubles.In the morning session, Vayam created a stir by stunning second seed Aditya Singh Negi of Uttarakhand in straight games. Supported by the strong home crowd, Vayam won 15-10, 15-12.

In the U-17 girls’ singles, Nehal Sisodiya of Rajasthan beats Pankti of Gujarat 17-15, 15-10 on Wednesday

Later in the evening, Vayam came up with another upset by shocking 14th seed Pratheesh Satheesh of Tamil Nadu 21-19, 15-6.Earlier, the second seeded pair of Vayam and Shreyansh Choudhary made the light work of V Chotakuri of Telangana and S Gannavarapu 15-11, 15-8.Rajasthan’s Anand Maderana notched up a stunning three-game victory over eighth-seeded J Pranith Barathi of Haryana, only to be eliminated in the evening pre-quarterfinals.In the U-15 boys’ singles, Anand rallied back to shock J Pranith 6-15, 17-15, 15-8. However, his dream run was ended by Telangana’s Keshav Uppala 15-12, 14-16, 15-17.

Anand Maderana and Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat duo upsets fifth-seeded pair of Manan Sharma and Sai Sohan Kota 12-15, 20-18, 15-3 to seal a place in the quarters

Later, Anand and Yuvraj Singh Shekhawat caused a big upset by knocking out the fifth-seeded pair of Manan Sharma (Rajasthan) and Sai Sohan Kota (Andhra Pradesh) in a hard-fought three-game outing, 12-15, 20-18, 15-3 to seal a place in the quarters.In the U-15 girls’ singles, Padmja Singh edged past Virdhasana T of Tamil Nadu in three games 3-15, 15-11, 15-12. However, later in the day, she was knocked out by Vaishnavi Mangelkar of Maharashtra 16-14, 15-13.

In the U-17 girls’ singles, Nehal Sisodiya of Rajasthan downed Pankti of Gujarat 17-15, 15-10. In the U-17 mixed doubles, Anshuman Choudhary of Rajasthan and Sarayu Ranjane of Maharashtra shocked the eighth seeded pair of Telangana Rohan and Shreya Joshi 15-10, 15-12.Rajasthan Badminton Association’s treasurer Zakir Hussain said that the quarter final and semi-final matches of all age groups will be played on Thursday. According to Pali district association’s secretary Dinesh Dinkar, the quarter final matches will be played from 9am and the semi-finals from 4pm.
