Jaipur: The enforcement wing of JDA will launch a demolition drive Monday along a one-kilometre stretch on New Sanganer Road from Gurjar Ki Thadi, following High Court directions to remove encroachments and widen the corridor.DIG, enforcement wing, Anand Sharma said the action will be limited in scale, with around 15 structures identified on this stretch.“These encroachments are merely staircases, shop extensions and other encroachments. There are no major structures, like a significant portion of a house or a shop, on this stretch. Since we need to file a compliance report Tuesday, we need to conduct this drive Monday,” Sharma said. The planned action has triggered unease among traders and residents. Since Saturday evening, several shopkeepers between Gurjar Ki Thadi and Sodala have begun shifting goods to avoid damage during the operation. By Sunday, business activity thinned sharply, with many shops remaining closed.Traders have moved two petitions seeking stays on the drive, one before Supreme Court and another before Rajasthan High Court.“While Supreme Court listed the matter Monday, high court, while hearing the appeal petition, sought a reply from JDA Tuesday. We are expecting stays in either or both petitions. JDA should have waited for another two days,” said Pawan Sahu, chairperson of the New Sanganer Road Traders’ Association.Meanwhile, Sahu and three others have already obtained stays from a JDA tribunal against demolition notices issued on Sept 27.The authority had served notices on around 250 structures, marked as encroachments, directing owners to remove them by Oct 3.“Monday’s drive, however, is expected to cover only a limited stretch identified by local JDA officials for immediate court compliance. We have already asked Jaipur commissionerate to deploy force and complete all other preparations,” an enforcement official added.
