Udaipur: Police arrested two men in Dungarpur and recovered counterfeit Rs 500 notes with a face value of Rs 4,95,500, a laptop and a colour printer, SP Manish Kumar said. A third accused fled.Police raided Mada School ground in Ramsagada police station area after receiving information about counterfeit currency transactions inside a car. Ramsagada SHO Kailash Panchariya and his team found a luxury car and a scooter parked there at night.The car’s driver fled in the darkness, while police caught two men seated beside and behind him. Bundles of Rs 500 notes found on the seats were determined to be counterfeit.Police identified those arrested as Bhavesh Khatik (23), a resident of Vijayganj Colony, Dungarpur, and Nayan Joshi (19), a resident of Nalanda Bungalows, Dungarpur. The notes, car and scooter were seized.During questioning, the accused allegedly said they had begun printing counterfeit notes eight to 10 days back after getting the idea from social media. They used an app on a laptop to prepare a design resembling a Rs 500 note and printed notes worth Rs 4,95,500 with a colour printer.Police said a person from Uttar Pradesh supplied paper resembling that used for genuine currency, including a shiny strip, making the counterfeit notes difficult for an ordinary person to identify. Efforts are under way to arrest the alleged supplier.Police raided locations to trace the absconding accused but could not find him. Investigators are examining how long the racket had operated, how much counterfeit currency had entered circulation and where the notes were intended to be passed.
