Jaipur: Two-time national veteran champion badminton player from Jaipur, Himani Punia, made a remarkable international comeback following knee surgery, winning a gold and a silver medal at the Cape Town Seniors International 2026 held in Cape Town, South Africa.Organised from September 23 to 27 at John Tyers Hall in Kenilworth of Cape Town, the tournament saw Himani clinch the gold medal in the women’s singles 40 plus category and the silver medal in the women’s doubles 45 plus section. The tournament was part of the BWF World Senior Circuit.

In the women’s doubles, Himani partnered with Clain Virginie of Réunion Island to secure the silver medal. Her gold medal in the women’s singles was a particularly special achievement, as it marked her first international gold medal in the event.Speaking about her comeback and victory on the court, Himani Punia said, “I feel extremely proud to win medals for my country. Winning my first international gold in women’s singles and a silver in women’s doubles in Cape Town is very special to me. This journey has not been easy at all. Returning to the court after surgery, getting myself fit again and then winning medals at the international level has been a deeply emotional moment for me. I am extremely grateful to my coach, family and well-wishers for their support.”
